It Is Time Bollywood Started Taking ‘Make In India’ Seriously, Says Nirmal Singh Lotus Green

When Yash Chopra decided to take Bollywood to Switzerland, he didn’t know that he is, in fact, bringing the world to India and is feeding the escapists fantasies of us Indian who just cannot get enough of the snow-covered mountains and Sri Devi dancing in the wind with Rishi Kapoor. But maybe now it is time that we think less about the western trends and concentrate on ‘Make in India’ - Nirmal Singh Lotus Green

We have endless access to global movies, cinema and television. We do not have to switch on the television for that; we have everything right in our ‘smartphones’. And when we decide to watch the movies, songs and previews of the upcoming movies, all we can see are the designer brands, foreign locations and our very own Deepikas and Kareenas drenched from head to toe in the western culture. Why is this? Is it necessary? Are we really that insecure about our own culture and heritage that we cannot show that on reel? Or are we too scared to paint a false picture of India?

According to the reviews of Nirmal Singh Lotus Green, the five most successful movies of the year so far were shot and made in India: Raees, Badrinath ki Dulhaniya, Jolly LLB, Hindi Medium, and of course, the magnum opus, Baahubali – The Conclusion. These movies should be the trend setters but for some reason, directors and film makers still think that shooting movies domestically or working on scripts that are ‘Indian’ is a risk not worth taking.

Nirmal Singh Lotus Green says that the movies and stories they are shooting in Europe with Indian actors wouldn’t be believable if they were shot here in India. The movies that were shot in India and were way too close to reality and made people uncomfortable stirred a lot of controversy.
