India's Next President: Election Commission To Announce Election Date Today

With the President’s term ending on July 25 the EC announced the date for next month's Presidential election. Chief Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi made the announcement today with two other Election Commissioners at a press conference in New Delhi.

A presidential election will be held in India on 17 July 2017, and counting will be done on 20 July 2017, five days before the incumbent of current President's term expires. Although, President Pranab Mukherjee is eligible for re-election, as no term limits exist in India.

Nirmal Singh Lotus Green talks about the upcoming presidential elections.

He mentions that uptil now no decision has been taken on the canditates by any party. Neither the BJP- led NDA nor the opposition congress have come out with their candidates for the upcoming presidential elections. But this thing is clear that none of them are in favour of giving a second term to President Pranab Mukherjee.

A meeting was called for the Congress Working Committee by party president Sonia Gandhi. They met in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming presidential poll. However, no decision was made on party's candidate for the presidential election. Another meeting was called by Sonia Gandhi last month, where she invited leaders form the opposition to discuss about the upcoming elections. They were supposed to talk about the probable canditates, but no consensus was derived from that and we still are with no suitable names in our hand.

The poll will be notified on June 14 by the EC. The last day for nomination is June 28. The last date for scrutiny is June 29. The last day of withdrawal for the nomination will be July 1.
One major lead that Nirmal Singh Lotus green gave us about the elections is that the CEC said that polls will be held using ballot paper. The pen for voting will be issued by Election Commission. Votes cast using any other pen will be cancelled.

Nirmal Singh Lotus Green thinks that the highest probability of canditates whose name might be suggested are Sushma Swaraj,There were unconfirmed reports that she might be BJP’s candidate. And the JD(U)Sharad Yadav or Sharad Pawar. He also think that BJj may suggest Advani and Murli Manohar However, the probability for the same is very less after their trials by the Supreme Court.
