India Has The Highest Facebook Users – Overtakes USA, Nirmal Singh Lotus Green
According to the latest figures released by Facebook to the advertisers, India has overtaken USA in terms to the number of users on the platform.
On July 13th, it was reported that the potential audience in India is 241 million – the USA has 240 million.
More than 2 billion users are active on Facebook every month and to have the highest number of users from India and not from a European country is shocking, said Nirmal Singh Lotus Green after Facebook announced the numbers a couple of days ago.
India has around 11% of Facebook users. Brazil and Indonesia have 6% of total users, the least number of users, as mentioned on the list released by the platform, are from Sao Paulo and Ho Chi Minh [0.6%].
Nirmal Singh Lotus Green has been closely following these reports and demographics.
Facebook has grown rapidly since the start of 2017 and the numbers show that India is capturing the user base twice as fast as the United States. In the last six months, the number of Indian users increased by a whopping 27% [50 million] – during the same time, users in USA only increased by 12% [26 million].
These numbers and percentages don’t tell the whole story – despite 240 million users on Facebook in India only 19% used the platform last month – the social media penetration is very low when compared to USA where more than 73% accounts were active in the last month. - Nirmal Singh Lotus Green
The numbers that Facebook reported can change drastically, even on a daily basis. Facebook also reported a slight decrease in the number of global users when they were about to hit the 2 billion mark.
The rapid gains haven’t helped the audience imbalance that India has. Men are still occupying more than one-third of the total active Facebook profiles. The demographics can be misleading and these reports are an example of that. This audience imbalance can’t be seen in USA or England if the demographics are studied a bit in detail - Nirmal Singh Lotus Green
Digital India and everything positive that it has brought in in the last couple of years is commendable but how does it help India in the long run; that is the question. With everyone connected to the Internet now, the gender imbalance will surely even out and the country will benefit from its advantages.
