You will consume more than 11GB data on your phone by 2022 - Nirmal Singh Lotus Green
Telecommunication giant Ericsson recently conducted a study based on the increase in smartphone usage, how users are changing their behavior based on the Internet trends and low Internet prices and the results were shocking. Based on these factors and some added filters, Ericsson announced on Wednesday that as early as 2022, an average smartphone user will be consuming more than 11GB data/month.
Ericsson Mobility Report 2017 has
made it clear that Internet usage on smartphones will see a tremendous growth in
the coming years. ‘The mobile data
traffic will increase more than 40% - data consumption which was just one
Exabyte at the end of last year will go up to eight Exabyte per month.’ - Nirmal Singh Lotus

In 2016, GSM was the dominant
technology and this hasn’t changed this year either. GSM accounted more than
70% of total data subscription in India, whereas LTE and HSPA got only 30% of
the remaining subscriptions. But by the year 2022, LTE subscriptions will go up
to 85% - 5G is also expected to come by 2022, so that will also work in the
favor of LTE subscriptions.
‘The focus on the Digital India campaign has boosted these numbers and
by 2022, these numbers will go even higher than they are now. New apps will
come in, network performance will get better, and Internet prices will drop
substantially over the next few years with an increase in competition between
service providers. All these combinations will make the consumer rush to using
Internet on Smartphone. More than 97% of mobile internet traffic will come
through smartphones, and that is a pretty high number if you ask me.’ - Nirmal Singh Lotus Green
Today, the number of VoLTE
subscribers is in the range of 370 million – this number is likely to go as
high as 4.6 billion by 2022.
‘According to the report released by Ericsson, VoLTE is a huge
opportunity for telecom service providers in the country. Every Internet
provider on mobile phones is looking to bring in 4G LTE calls – this will lower
the calling cost/minute and will re-frame the whole spectrum.’ - Nirmal Singh Lotus

If the
numbers are true and the campaign works the way it is for the next half decade
then Digital India campaign will put India on the digital map of the world.
